12/8 Biography - Emily Dickinson

Emily Dickinson (December 10, 1850 - May 15, 1886) was an American poet. She was born in Amherst, Massachusetts and died there from nephritis. About 1,800 poems that she had written are known today. However, when she was living, not many were actually published. The poems that were published after she died were changed a great deal before it could be seen by the public.

Not much is known about Emily Dickinson's life. Information taken from people who knew her may not be accurate. From what is known about Dickinson, her family was financially stable, and she had many friends. Although she had a good childhood, when she became an adult, she began to withdraw from people and started wearing only white. She is best known for being a poet, and many of her poems can be found at any library.
